Staying warm and stylish in Winter
Staying warm and stylish in Winter
1) Dress for the weather. The season is Winter so ensure you are appropriately dressed for it.
2) If you're someone who is cold all the time then you will benefit from more practical clothing but this doesn't mean you'll look less chic, which takes me to my next point.
3) Thermals, if you're cold then please consider wearing them as a base for underneath your clothes. Nobody will know and it means you can rock the Winter Outfits without looking like a marshmallow. Thermals are excellent for keeping your body regulated, they are on the more warmer side but if you need them then you shouldn't overheat.
4) I can't express how passionately I feel about spending a little extra on good pairs of tights. Every winter I go into Marks & Spencer's and treat myself to £40 worth of tights to last me the season. Not only do my tights last all Winter but I don't need to buy more until the following Winter. This is because I've paid for this convenience. It's not so pricey when they last all year right?
5) This is an obvious one but boots should be your main form of footwear.
6) Okay, I've stated the obvious... I've also mentioned the importance of dressing for the seasons. Now, if you must go out in bare legs then opt for thigh high boots. This is acceptable because it's seasonally appropriate and a little bit cheeky.
7) Now for ankle boots, I would opt for patterned tights as these tend to be sheer and draw attention to your legs. Perfect for winter, very chic and we all still want to embody elegance don't we?
8) For a night out? Say you don't want to be too modest and fancy leaving the house in bare legs.. I would opt for a longer dress such as the midi dress. If you prefer mini dresses then I'd find a way to give your outfit a nod to Winter. You can do this by wrapping up on your top half or perhaps throw on a cosy coat or jacket. Or you could be bold and wear that sparkly mini dress as this is still seasonally appropriate due to the Festive nature. Sometimes warmer textiles are excellent to have the best of both worlds so it's good to give this thought.
9) Now to add confusion, let's avoid looking overly modest as we still want to look youthful. When wearing a long coat or knitwear, I always go for something short to counteract it. There's an art to mixing skimpy clothes with warm wear and that's how you balance your outfits. For example my legs are rarely cold so I tend to wrap up my upper body and opt for shorter cuts for my bottom half. This keeps me warm without weighing me down.
10) Pay attention to what your clothes are made of. Natural materials such as cotton and wool. Thin knitwear that has a higher percentage of high quality materials will keep your warmer than thick knitwear that's made of poor quality materials. If you find you're always cold and are opting for thick layers then you will definitely benefit from this research. There are a lot more affordable options than you think, you don't need to buy the most expensive Cashmere wool, you just have to be mindful and remember to check the labels so you can get the most out of your clothes.
11) If you live in a cold climate then it's wise to invest more money into coats and jackets. Personally, I always spend a bit extra on them so I can wear them year after year. I love making a statement so I will buy them in my favourite colours as there's nothing more boring than wearing a plain black coat everyday.
12) Faux Fur coats instantly make a skimpy outfit look wintery. You could wear the shortest dress or a pair of short shorts but paired with a faux fur coat you'll be cosy.
13) Classic coats and jackets that have stood the test of time are always a good investment. Examples of classics would be your trench coats and black leather jackets. If you needed an excuse to treat yourself to an expensive jacket well, as long as it falls into the classic category then go for it. If you can afford an Allsaints leather jacket then you won't regret purchasing one because they are timeless and excellent quality for the money. It also adds an edge to your outfit.
14) Have all the gear and make sure you remember to prepare, always have an umbrella and remember to take it everywhere to keep you dry. I personally love umbrellas as I'm the worst for buying impractical jackets without hoods so this keeps me chic and dry. Hats are also brilliant for styling your outfits as well as serving a purpose. If you always carry gloves and remember a scarf then you won't be cold.
15) If you don't like to wrap up then it's wise to consider your colour scheme instead. I'm hardly ever cold so I always stick to a wintery colour palette during this time of year.
15) I always wear skirts, shorts and dresses even in winter. I can never stay away from florals, even in winter so opting for dark florals is how I spice it up. For night time, I love Tulle. Tulle looks chic and paired with jumpers and jackets you will feel cosy.
16) If you can afford Cashmere then you won't regret it. However any natural fibres are wise.
17) I love leather and suede in Winter whether these are the real thing or faux, I just think they keep you warm and instantly add an edge.
18) Jumper dresses are an excellent to keep us warm and dressed up for the Winter Season. I love jumper dresses because they're comfortable, flattering and very warm. I feel very smart and dressed up in a Jumper dress without sacrificing warmth,
19) I already mentioned hats but I feel like they deserve another mention. Stylish hats are an excellent way to keep us warm and put together. If I'm doing outdoorsy things then I'll wear my beanie but if I want to look more chic then I'll wear a fedora or a French beret. A hat can make you look more sophisticated and instantly makes you stand out. These are just a few examples but don't be afraid to get expressive with your hat game.
20) I wear a lot of cardigans and these are an excellent way to layer your clothes but sometimes I even wear a cardigan as a base then layer on top with a jacket. Wearing a cardigan as a top is warm and more stylish than wearing a basic top just to put a cardigan over it. If you want to leave your cardigan unbuttoned then wearing a beautiful bralette underneath can make you look alluring without any vulgarity. I also like oversized cardigans and leaving it half buttoned to keep me warm without disguising my outfit.
21) Wear your best clothes. Don't save everything for special occasions. Good clothes are designed to be worn as much as possible or they wouldn't be your good clothes!
Due to my love for classic fashion, these tips should be in date no matter what year it is. I'm not an overly trendy person so if you've already bought your Winter Wardrobe then just keep this in mind for all Winters to come or even better, keep reading my content for updates.
